Which engine would you transplant into your vehicle if you could?, or would you never do such a thing because it already has an awesome powerplant.
I want an F20C from an S2000 for my NA Miata.

If I were to engine swap a Miata I'd do it with a LS engine. If I wanted a small Japanese roadster with a F20C I'd buy a S2000.

By the time you factored in the price of the miata and the price of engine, trans, and other swap parts, couldn't you just buy an S2000?

I just know from experience how expensive a "simple" engine swap can become. There are a lot of little things you don't think of at first like drive shafts, shifters, exhaust, fuel delivery, wiring, clutch and throttle connections etc. If there is a swap kit with all the mounts and brackets and all the stuff you need it does make it a bit easier.
For me my ultimate swap would be an LS9 into a Ferrari Testarossa. I'd drive it everyday. I'm sure it would be super expensive though since all the work would be custom. I don't think anyone has done it before. I'd only do it to one that had a blown engine and transmission though.

> unpredictable_swerve
08/21/2014 at 20:46 | 0 |
You're not putting into consideration that a 5.3 weighs around 525 wet, while a Duramax weighs 1000 dry. It also is much taller along with a wider transmission, so it would be nearly impossible. An H2 would work for either of these swaps.

If you actually use a BRAT for it's intended use, the diesel would be much better. Having put a few hundred miles in a BRAT, a diesel with more torque would be insane. They are relatively peppy with their original 67 hp, so a little more hp and a lot more torque would be hilariously fun.
unpredictable_swerve

it might take a little massaging, but it could happen. No cutting yeah sure a 4BT, Toyota diesel, TDI, etc... The new frontier might get a small diesel so that could work...

the intended use of a small pickup built to get around an import tax? Nah, I would only drive the ever living piss out of it, rallycross, drift, autox, etc with people in the rear seats waving to whoever I can pass (OK maybe no autox then). A diesel brat would be really cool, I'll give you that, but one built only to drive it hard with people in the back shouldn't have a diesel.

It would take a whole new chassis, front and rear axles, entirely new suspension, uprated brakes, revised cooling, new electronics, and the list goes on to utilize the power of a larger diesel. The new 4 cylinder Duramax coming out for the Colorado would be perfect.

That's what I did with mine, anything more than 200hp would be overkill, really. It weighs 2100lbs. With 67hp in a field, you could get it as sideways as your balls would take you. It would also jump, but my back would not advise that. The seatbelts don't lock.

I actually like the hybrid idea for that car since it's already gonna be a tech-y car. The torque and fast response from the motors will help with cornering speeds and off the line speeds. But the V10 option the designers considered wouldn't have been a bad option at all though!
